The brewery's name, Battery Steele, is derived from a historic site on Peaks Island, a small island located in Casco Bay, off the coast of Portland. The site was a military fortification built during World War II, known as Battery Steele, which is now a part of the Peaks Island Land Preserve.
Battery Steele Brewing officially opened its doors to the public in 2017. Their brewing facility is housed in a 5,000 square foot industrial space, which includes a tasting room where visitors can sample their wide variety of craft beers.
