π Short History:
Breakside Brewery Slabtown is the third location of the Breakside Brewery company, which was originally founded in 2010 in the Woodlawn neighborhood of Northeast Portland, Oregon, USA. The original Breakside Brewery was started by Scott Lawrence and Tony Petraglia, with Ben Edmunds as the brewmaster.
The Slabtown location, officially known as Breakside Brewery & Slabtown Brewpub, opened its doors in March 2017. This location is a three-level, 5,000 square foot brewpub located in the Northwest Portland district, known as Slabtown. The name "Slabtown" comes from the area's history of lumber mills, where workers would sell "slabs" of cut-off edges of logs for firewood.
The Slabtown location features a 10-barrel brewing system, which is used for small-batch and experimental beers. It also includes a restaurant with a full menu and a rooftop patio. The Slabtown location has allowed Breakside Brewery to expand its beer offerings and experiment with new styles and flavors.
Breakside Brewery, including its Slabtown location, has won numerous awards for its beers. For instance, it won the gold medal at the 2014 Great American Beer Festival for its Breakside IPA. It has also been named Brewery of the Year at the 2017 and 2019 Oregon Beer Awards.
