π Short History:
Chatoe Rogue Farmstead Brewery is a part of Rogue Ales & Spirits, a craft brewery that was originally founded in Ashland, Oregon in 1988. The founders were three Nike, Inc. executives: Jack Joyce, Rob Strasser, and Bob Woodell. The company expanded quickly, and by 1989, they had opened a second brewpub in Newport, Oregon.
The Chatoe Rogue Farmstead Brewery itself is located in Independence, Oregon, and it's part of Rogue's unique "farm-to-glass" initiative. This initiative began in 2008 when Rogue acquired a hop farm in the Willamette Valley, where they started growing their own ingredients for their beers. The Chatoe Rogue Tasting Room was opened on this farm in 2009, and it was here that Rogue began its venture into farming and creating beers from ingredients grown on their own farms.
The term "Chatoe" is a play on the French term "chateau," implying that the beer is estate-grown and produced. The Farmstead Brewery is part of Rogue's commitment to sustainable brewing practices. They grow a variety of ingredients on their farms, including hops, barley, rye, wheat, honey, pumpkins, and more. This allows them to have control over the entire brewing process, from growing the ingredients to brewing the beer.
Rogue Ales & Spirits, including the Chatoe Rogue Farmstead Brewery, continues to be a leader in the craft beer industry, known for their innovative and high-quality beers.
