π Short History:
Ecliptic Brewing is a craft brewery based in Portland, Oregon, USA. It was founded by John Harris, a veteran brewer with over 30 years of experience in the industry. Harris is known for his contributions to the Oregon brewing scene, having previously worked at McMenamins, Deschutes Brewery, and Full Sail Brewing Company.
The idea for Ecliptic Brewing was conceived in 2012, and the brewery officially opened its doors on October 21, 2013. The name "Ecliptic" reflects Harris's interest in astronomy, with the brewery's branding and beer names often having an astronomical theme. The brewery's location in North Portland was chosen for its view of the Fremont Bridge and its proximity to the Willamette River.
Ecliptic Brewing combines Harris's two passions: brewing and astronomy. The brewery celebrates the Earth's yearly journey around the sun through both its beer and food menus, which rotate every six weeks on the old world calendar: Samhain, Winter Solstice, Brigid, Spring Equinox, Beltaine, Summer Solstice, Lammas, and Autumnal Equinox.
Ecliptic Brewing has gained recognition for its quality beers. Some of their popular brews include Starburst IPA, Capella Porter, and Carina Peach Sour Ale. The brewery has also won several awards, including a silver medal at the 2014 World Beer Cup for their Spica Pilsner.
In addition to its brewing operations, Ecliptic Brewing operates a restaurant at its Portland location, offering a menu that changes every six weeks to reflect the astronomical seasons. The restaurant, like the brewery, emphasizes local, seasonal ingredients.
As of the present, Ecliptic Brewing continues to be a significant player in the Oregon craft beer scene, known for its innovative and quality brews.
