π Short History:
Lake Superior Brewing Co. is based in Duluth, Minnesota, and is known as the oldest microbrewery in the state. The brewery's history dates back to 1994 when it was founded as a brewpub by Don and Jo Hoag, Karen Olesen, and Dale Kleinschmidt.
In its early years, the brewery was known for its craft beers, including its flagship beer, Special Ale, and other varieties like Kayak KΓΆlsch, Sir Duluth Oatmeal Stout, and Mesabi Red.
In 2001, Lake Superior Brewing Co. transitioned from a brewpub to a full-fledged microbrewery, focusing solely on brewing beer rather than operating a restaurant.
The brewery changed hands in 2017 when it was purchased by Lars Kuehnow and Lisa Blade. Under the new ownership, the brewery underwent renovations and updates to its taproom and brewing equipment.
Lake Superior Brewing Co. continues to be a significant part of Minnesota's craft beer scene, known for its commitment to quality and tradition. It is also a member of the Minnesota Craft Brewers Guild.
