📜 Short History:
Mishigama Craft Brewing, also known as Ypsi Alehouse, is a brewery located in Ypsilanti, Michigan, USA. The brewery was founded by Ted Badgerow, who is considered a pioneer in the Michigan craft beer scene.
Ted Badgerow first started brewing in 1982 with the establishment of the Real Ale Company, which was the first brewpub in Michigan and one of the first in the United States. However, due to legal issues and changes in Michigan's brewing laws, the Real Ale Company had to close down.
Years later, Badgerow returned to the brewing industry and founded Mishigama Craft Brewing. The brewery, which operates under the name Ypsi Alehouse, opened its doors in downtown Ypsilanti in 2016. The name "Mishigama" is derived from the Ojibwe word "mishigamaa" which means "large water" or "large lake", a reference to Michigan's Great Lakes.
Ypsi Alehouse is known for its traditional brewing methods and its focus on local ingredients. The brewery offers a variety of beers, including ales, lagers, stouts, and IPAs. The brewery also features a food menu that pairs with its beers.
As of the time of writing, Ypsi Alehouse continues to operate in Ypsilanti, contributing to the local craft beer scene and Michigan's broader brewing industry.
