π Short History:
Steamworks Brewing Co. is a well-known brewery located in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The brewery was established in 1995 by Eli Gershkovitch in the historic Gastown neighborhood. The name "Steamworks" comes from the steam heating system that runs throughout the building where the brewery is located. This unique system was incorporated into the brewing process, making Steamworks the first steam-powered brewery in Canada.
The brewery started as a brewpub, serving a variety of craft beers directly to customers. The initial capacity was 12 draught taps, but due to the increasing popularity of their beers, the number of taps was expanded to 24 in a short period of time.
In 2012, Steamworks expanded its operations by opening a full-scale production brewery in Burnaby, BC. This allowed them to increase their production capacity significantly and start bottling their beers for retail distribution. Today, Steamworks beers are available in many parts of Canada and are also exported to several countries around the world.
Steamworks Brewing Co. has won numerous awards for their beers over the years, including several gold medals at the Canadian Brewing Awards. Their flagship beers include the Steamworks Pale Ale, Pilsner, and IPA.
Eli Gershkovitch, the founder of Steamworks, is still actively involved in the brewery and continues to guide its growth and development. His innovative approach to brewing and his commitment to quality have been key factors in the success of Steamworks Brewing Co.
